    Alternative Energy Feedback: The main sources of energy, other than charcoal, would have been wind power (through windmills, and sailships), and fuels such as straw, waste wood, or dung. It’s also likely that any organic waste (eg., human hair, food that ccould not be eaten but was dried for the fire) was added to the fire. Water power was also used, to power mills. Energy from humans (eg., a person pushing a wheelbarrow) or beasts of burden was also important.

    (By the way, the Black Plague actually happened about a century earlier.)
